Scammers pretending to be Wisconsin Capitol Police demanding payment over phone, state officials say

Wisconsin government officials warn there's a new scam out there trying to get your financial info over the phone.

The state's Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection say some scammers are using the state capitol police dispatch number to impersonate law enforcement.

The scammers tell you there's a warrant out for your arrest and demand payment over the phone, per an official DATCP release.

State Capitol Police are reminding the community that they will never threaten or demand your financial info over the phone. They say if you get a call like this, just hang up.
