THOUSANDS of Americans can claim payments up to $10,500 thanks to a data breach settlement of $675,000.
Crystal Bay Casino, a hotel and casino near Lake Tahoe in Nevada, agreed to the giant settlement to resolve a 27-page class action lawsuit - despite denying any wrongdoing.
More than 86,000 people were affected in the November 2022 data breach as personal information of employees and Player's Club members was compromised, according to ClassAction.Org.
Individuals who received a data breach notification from Crystal Bay are eligible for payments up to $500 for "ordinary expenses" including bank fees, communications costs, and up to five hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour under the settlement terms.
Other members can get up to $10,000 for "extraordinary losses" linked to identity theft or fraud between June 1, 2022, and June 4, 2024. These losses must be documented to get payment.
Class members who don't have proof of payment or don't wish to claim any data breach-related losses can opt for cash payments between $25 and $50 and three years of free credit monitoring.
In order to get a payment, class members must file a claim form by June 4. The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 6, 2024.

Drug settlement deadline fast approaching
Prospective claimants must act fast and file their forms before the deadline of May 6, 2024.
The final approval hearing in the class action lawsuit was over a year prior on March 8, 2023.
Deadlines for exclusion and objection passed earlier on September 23, 2022.
It’s unclear exactly when qualifying class members can expect to receive their direct payment from the settlement.
An estimated amount has not yet been determined.
Distributions will vary based on the amount of eligible drug purchases included per applicant.
What you'll need to claim drug settlement money
Before affected Americans consider filing, they must ensure they have proof of purchase of the generic drugs within the allotted period.
Prescription orders or account statements verifying the purchase would need to be included while filing a claim.
The documents must show the transaction for one or more of the eligible generic drugs listed in the suit from either Sun Pharmaceuticals or Taro Pharmaceuticals between May 1, 2009, and December 31, 2019.
Those who already received a claim form in the mail from the settlement may not be required to include the proof of purchase.
Others may be asked to provide further data if it is not located by either company in their records.
A downloadable copy of the claim form to send in to a mailing address listed on the settlement website is accessible here.
How to qualify for generic drug settlement
Those affected Americans who seek to obtain compensation from the settlement will need to keep a few deadlines in mind and meet at least three criteria to qualify.
Those who can benefit from the $85 million pot would need to have purchased specific generic drugs provided by either of the two companies within a certain period.
That period was noted in the suit as between May 1, 2009, and December 31, 2019.
Only specific eligible drugs were determined to be in the alleged price-fixed group. A list of the qualifying prescriptions is included on the settlement website.
Additionally, qualifying claimants would not have purchased the generic drugs from Walgreens or CVS.
Those who did purchase them from either retailer are not part of the class.

The alleged conspiracy to increase costs for medical patients and other customers resulted in some paying much higher for the prescriptions than they would in a competitive market.
Sun Pharmaceuticals and Taro Pharmaceuticals did not admit to any wrongdoing in the case but agreed to a settlement amount of $85 million to resolve the antitrust claims and avoid further legal costs.
The contribution amounts were split unevenly between the two companies.
Taro Pharmaceuticals paid the majority of the pot at $67.643 million.
Sun Pharmaceuticals provided $117.357 million. It’s unclear exactly how the split was determined.

Eligibility for Central Maine rent relief, continued
Not every qualified person will get the $800 in help for 24 months under the eviction prevention measure.
However, according to MaineHousing director Dan Brennan, who spoke with Central Maine, the initiative is in the works, and rent assistance funding will be available by late July.
The Housing Opportunities for Maine, or HOME, Act, a $76 million housing aid package, included a prior rent reduction program run by MaineHousing.
However, Central Maine claimed that it was changed to investigate problems of the scarcity of affordable housing.
As more affordable housing is constructed, Gattine expressed to the outlet his expectation that the pilot program will be successful in mitigating the housing issue.
Eligibility for Central Maine rent relief
To be eligible, those who are curious about cannabis must earn less than 60% of the typical income in the region.
According to Central Maine, anyone who makes less than $49,749 per year and lives alone in Portland, Maine, is eligible, as per the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
You qualify for assistance if you and your family make $70,980 or less annually.
However, at the time of application, you cannot have been paying rent using a federal housing voucher.
Furthermore, residing in a subsidized housing unit will disqualify you.
Rent relief for Mainers, concluded
Maine Equal Justice, a nonprofit legal aid service, reported that over 6,000 households threatened eviction in 2023 — a 16% increase from the previous year.
According to Central Maine, as the economy falters, Maine’s population and the state’s homeless population are both expected to rise.
“Our homeless system is overloaded, and as a result, we see the exponential growth of unsheltered homelessness and encampments in places we never expected,” Katie Spencer White of Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter and Services told Maine Beacon.
Authorities expect that people who spend more than half of their income on housing expenditures would feel less stressed as a result of the planned initiative.
Rent relief for Mainers, continued
The city has long struggled with a housing crisis brought on by increasing rents and property prices, which are made worse by an old and inadequate supply of homes.
Advocates for rent relief have been organizing protests and rallies to campaign for financing for this long-running initiative.
According to Central Maine, Democratic State Representative Drew Gattine has supported the pilot program, which is being run by MaineHousing. Gattine has projected that around 2,400 individuals will be eligible.
He saw it as a chance to change Mainers’ lives for the better. According to Gattine, he wanted the issue of families finding it difficult to maintain their houses to be acknowledged on par with the demand for new housing units.
“A $300 or $400 subsidy would be really helpful for somebody, but for people with really low incomes, that would not be enough to keep them housed,” he told the outlet.
Rent relief for Mainers
For a maximum of two years, a new rent relief pilot program can put $800 in your pocket each month.
The goal of the direct payments is to reduce the number of low-income Maine residents who face homelessness due to evictions.
According to Central Maine, the new pilot program will get $18 million from the state of Maine’s $430 million supplementary budget.
Most likely-to-be-evicted tenants may get up to $800 in rent paid directly to their landlord for a maximum of two years under the terms of the rent relief project.
