DMV: Wisconsin residents can now add emergency contact information to records

MADISON (WKOW) -- Emergency contact information can now be added to Wisconsin licenses, the DMV said Monday.

Gov. Tony Evers signed the "To Inform Families First" or "TIFF" law in 2023 to provide law enforcement the ability to contact family members and loved ones more efficiently. Only law enforcement will be able to access this information, and it is not required nor printed on ID cards.

Starting June 1, Wisconsin residents have the option to add one emergency contact to their DMV record. New applications will also have this option.

To add emergency contact information to a DMV record, visit the website. It is not necessary to visit the DMV to make these changes.

You will need to enter your ID or Driver's License, your Social Security number, and date of birth. Your emergency contact information should include their name, current physical address, phone number, and relationship.
